Leopard
A Leopard at Makalali
The best way to see Africa in on one of our small, luxury safaris. Each has only five couples. There is an open spot for one couple on the May 29 - June 10, 2017 safari and spots for two couples in the October 4-16, 2017 safari. Dates for two 2018 Safaris have just been established (see the Schedule Page). Seize this opportunity to share the experience with other grads. Contact us today for the safari experience of a lifetime.

If these dates don't work for you, but you are interested in future dates, please take the time to send us an email to get on the short list of people who will receive advance invitations.

Safari Details:

To insure our adventure comprises a good sample of the many splendors South Africa offers, we visit three separate locales: five nights in Cape Town; three nights in a private lodge within the Big 5 Sabi Sand Reserve and four nights in a private camp in the Big 5 Greater Makalali Reserve.

View from Villa
The View from a Bedroom in Our Villa
In historic Cape Town, we occupy a villa overlooking False Bay. The villa affords each couple a private ensuite bedroom with an ocean view. From the villa, we tour historic downtown Cape Town and the surrounding area including Table Mountain, the African Penguin Colony, the Cape of Good Hope and the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine regions, taking full advantage of many fine dining opportunities along the way.

We fly between Cape Town and our bush locations and transport to and from airports is by private ground transport. We get our first taste of primal Africa on the way to our bush locations.

Encounter with Ellie
Close Encounter with an Elephant
In Sabi Sand we occupy the five private, ensuite chalets of a small camp adjacent to a watering hole where elephant and buffalo come at all times of day. The game viewing in Sabi Sand is reputed to be the best in the world and our prior experiences support that claim. All meals, local beer and wines and two game drives each day at our Sabi Sand lodge are included.

Once again, travel between Sabi Sand and the Greater Makalali Reserve is by private ground transport. In the Greater Makalali Reserve we enjoy exclusive use of a luxurious private camp with individual en suite chalets. The camp adjoins a watering hole where rhino and other game come to drink. All meals, local beer and wines and two game drives each day at Makalali are included.

Sabi Sand Accommodation
Our Accommodations in Sabi Sand
A game drive is a guided excursion in the bush aboard an open Land Cruiser in search of the most interesting wildlife viewing available. Not every drive is equally successful, but before your visit is over you can expect exciting, close encounters with African elephant, lions, rhino, giraffe and many other creatures unique to Africa. Be sure to bring a digital camera with good zoom capability. Opportunities for once-in-a-lifetime pics on our photo safari will abound. Our professional guides will make these wonderfully educational as well.

At the end of your safari, we take you back to the airport for your flight(s) back to the United States, or alternately, we encourage you to extend your stay to see more of Africa.

Our Accomodations in Makalali
Our Accommodations in Makalali
The cost for 2017's safaris is $4,200 per person sharing. Accommodations, ground transport, scheduled activities, parks fees, local beer and wines, all breakfasts and one catered dinner in Cape Town are included. Accommodations, ground transport, scheduled activities, parks fees, all meals and local beer and wines at the two reserves are included. All airfare, tips in all locations, meals out in the Cape Town vicinity and any hard liquor you may wish to consume are not included.

The price is based upon a full safari of five couples. A deposit of $2100 per person is required at the time of reservation. The second half of the cost is payable 30 days before departure. We request payments by personal check or bank transfer on PayPal. We also strongly suggest trip insurance because your payment is non-refundable if you cancel and your place is unable to be filled. For your planning purposes, the current cost of round trip coach flights from most places in the US to Cape Town plus your flights within SA is between $1100 and $1800 (not included). Additional guidance on the specific airline reservations you will make; a more detailed itinerary and suggested equipment list, subject to change as circumstances dictate, will follow.

Camilla and I have traveled extensively in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana and managed our daughter's wildlife sanctuary, Lapolosa Wilderness, for two years. During this time we hosted numerous trips by Lapolosa Wilderness volunteers and other visitors to Kruger National Park and Big 5 reserves. Of course, some of our best experiences have come in the company of grad-couples on safaris in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Some grad-couples have inquired about safaris for their families and/or non-grad favorite traveling companions. If you would like to explore these possibilities just send us an email.

Click on this Testimonials link to read some of the wonderful things past participants have to say about their experience. Let's go to Africa together!
